About Me

My photo
I'm a Mom in Training and a Grown up in Progress. I'm a hot mess 6 out of 7 days a week. I constantly stop to make sure I didn't forget a kid somewhere, always leave something out for the dog to destroy, usually misplace my keys, cell phone, hair brush, and remote every 30 minutes or so and never remember to refill the diaper bag. I struggle on a daily basis with the fact that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Join me while I learn how being a grown up doesn't mean you actual have to grow up.

Getting Fit: Because a Blob isn't a shape

Mission: No more Dunlap

A few months ago I stood in front of the mirror and as I looked at the person staring back at me I was at a loss for words, and as I slowly choked down the bile that had risen from the depths of my core I wondered out loud; who the Hell are you? Then the horror crept up and hit me like a truck HOLY CRAP that's me! Oh for the love of all that is holy how did this happen?  I vowed right then and there to "Get in Shape", to lose 30 pounds and reclaim my body.  I cursed the muffin top and saddle bags that stared back at me.  I cursed my love for food, especially everything chocolate.  I waved goodbye to that girl I didn't even recognize and about fainted when the flabby biceps of that girl waved back.  It was obvious that this was going to be war and I was standing on the forefront of the battlefield.

The first step: Sign up for a 5K that  I am in no way ready for.  Genius Idea...Not!  I mean, this will motivate me to get in shape right?  Well the Color Run is in 6 days and the longest I have ran is a mile.  I am totally screwed.  This week is going to rough, and I must train like my life depends on it.  Ugh, when will I grow up and stop procrastinating?  The truth is probably never.  Lets hope this time my adolescent tendencies don't kill me.  At least I convinced my 14 year old daughter to participate with me.  That gives me hope that someone will call 911 when I collapse.

Wish me Luck

If your interested in where this battle will take place please visit here and remember its super important to Have fun with getting in shape!

Update:  The race was AWESOME!  I actually ran the entire thing!  Its a miracle!  There were 4 color stations so we did slow down through those checkpoints to get "colored" but other then that we ran it all.  For a girl who couldn't run a mile in high school to a mom of 3 kids running a 5k, I am feeling very accomplished.  We are so proud ourselves for completing this goal we set and not killing ourselves in the process.  I feel so lucky to have shared the experience with my daughter and I can't wait to make it something that we do all the time together.
Now comes the true test to keep up with the fitness.  If I can run 3 miles in a 5k race, then I for sure can do it at home.  My goal is to run 3 miles 3 times a week.  Hopefully this will help me drop the last 20 pounds that is hanging on for dear life.  Today will be the first time I will go running after the race and I know that I am going to have to push myself to make the 3 miles by myself without other people pushing me to keep going.  It was easy to keep going during the race because you don't want to quit when you have all these other people around you, but by yourself its harder to keep going.  Fingers crossed I can push through and make this goal a reality also.

Wish me Luck,

Agent M
